We suggest that you read our review of Gyoza King and then read this review. Go ahead, we’ll wait.

Okay, now you know about the special place that Gyoza King holds in our hearts. So, when we checked out Nan Chuu, sister restaurant of Gyoza King, we had high hopes. We’re happy to report we were not disappointed.

Nan Chuu is the place to go to if you like Japanese food, if you like to taste lots of small dishes (if you’re an appetizer hound, you will love Japanese izakaya), if you want to party and share food with your hipster friends, and especially if you like grilled food. It’s located in Richmond, the Asian Mecca just outside of Vancouver, BC. You can drive there or take the Sky Train and then walk a ways (great way to work up your appetite).

Satisfy your tum and your taste buds by trying lots of different small dishes. That’s what izakaya is all about. Some dishes to try include the gyoza sampler (pork, chicken, shrimp), agedashi tofu, tori karaage chicken, beef short ribs, miso black cod, unagi don (grilled eel on rice), any of the robata dishes, bbq onigiri (grilled rice triangles), yakiudon, black sesame ice cream, and salmon cooked slowly over a hot rock. Amazing.

NOTE: You can eat here on a NoodleTaco budget. We’ve done it. But, we’re frugality pros. So, if you want to try lots and lots of different dishes, we recommend going in a group of 4-6 people so you can sample many things and not break the bank.
