Dim sum means to touch your heart or a little bit of heart in Chinese. It makes sense. Once you’ve had really good dim sum, your heart (and your tum) will feel full.
Your heart will sing when you taste Dinesty’s dim sum. Located in Richmond, the Asian Mecca of British Columbia, Dinesty has, hands down, some of the best dim sum you’ll find anywhere—dare we say it—in the world.
Xiao long bao, often listed on menus as soup dumplings or juicy buns, are listed simply as “Steamed Pork Dumplings” on Dinesty’s menu. Such simple words for such an amazing dish.
When the xiao long bao arrive at your table, steaming in their bamboo steamer, you must eat them right away. Don’t let them sit. Place a dumpling in your soup spoon. Delicately pierce the dumpling with your chopstick or bite a small bit of the dough wrapper to release the soup. Sip the soup. Savor the flavor. Blow on the dumpling if it’s too hot. Pop the dumpling in your mouth. Chew. Enjoy. Repeat.
Other dishes to try are the cold cucumbers in garlic sauce, pork pot stickers, marinated beef with soy sauce wrapped in pancake, Shanghai noodles, dry fried green beans, green onion pancake, fried radish slice cake, pan fried pork dumplings, and much, much more. So many choices, so little time.
Speaking of time, while you’re dining at Dinesty you might be disoriented for a second. You might forget where you are. Taipei? Hong Kong? Shanghai? No, you’re just in good ol’ Canada. Now, have another dumpling.
