If you’ve read some of our other reviews, you know that we don’t eat hot pot—the popular Asian dish of cooking your own choices of meats and vegetables in bubbling broth at your table. It’s not because it’s not good; it is good. But we find that we get too full on it too fast so we don’t partake.
So why go to a place called HKYK Seafood Hot Pot? Go for the dim sum. Dim sum is the appetizer hound’s dream menu. Most dishes come with 2, 3 or 4 pieces per plate so you can sample lots of different dishes. At HKYK you check off the dishes you want from a long paper menu and they cook your food to order.
A must try are the wontons in chili oil. It’s actually in a chili-spiked peanut sauce. Really good and very subtle spice. Other favorites include the steamed sticky rice filled with pieces of pork and shitake mushroom, pan fried turnip cake, siu mai (steamed pork and shrimp dumplings), steamed plain buns (mantou), and steamed juicy dumplings (xiao long bao).
Early birds will love the 30% discount off dim sum if you order before 11am. Night owls will love being able to order dim sum until 11pm. HKYK has something for everyone.
